The grace of an Orthodox funeral

Wow, what a concept: I heard someone say once when I was learning about Orthodoxy years ago, “Orthodox Christians have more fun at funerals than Protestants do at weddings.” That may be a little much, and I would like to use a different word than “fun,” but I get the point. The speaker was asserting that Orthodox Christians tend to know themselves at a deeper level and so can express themselves more freely at such events, even funerals!

So, what of the funeral? The rich diet of theology accessible to all at such a solemn occasion is worth reflecting on. I have thought about one such element in the funeral service and my work on that follows: click and read on this,
