I have launched the website, but fervent work on the Liturgy of St James, and preparations to serve it in our parish for the first time, have consumed my every thought. So, STAND BY in this column; I anticipate working on the Scriptures regularly here!

In this area, I offer brief reflections on the appointed lectionary for the coming day for the spiritual edification of my readers. Say this prayer before you begin your Bible reading each day:

Illumine our hearts, O Master Who lovest mankind, with the pure light of Thy divine knowledge, and open the eyes of our mind to the understanding of Thy Gospel teachings; implant un us also the fear of Thy blessed commandments, that trampling down all carnal desires, we may enter upon a spiritual manner of living, both thinking and doing such things as are well-pleasing unto Thee. For Thou art the Illumination of our souls and bodies, O Christ our God, and unto Thee do we ascribe glory, together with Thine un-originate Father and Thine all-holy and good and life-creating Spirit, now and always, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Thought for the Day from Bishop JOSEPH of Los Angeles and the West:

  • "Give thanks to the Lord, but do not forget His great men, - the poor and the needy, for they can accomplish much with God the Lord." -- Abbot Nazarius of the Valaam Monastery
